Criminal Investigations Division
Provides follow-up investigation as needed on all felony cases reported to the department. Handles all high profile or major case investigations and all multi-jurisdictional cases. Handles all evidence and seizures for the department.
METRO Team
The METRO team is comprised of two specialized teams: the Crisis Negotiation Team and the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT). The unit has been established to provide specialized support in handling critical field operations where intense negotiations and/or special tactical deployment methods beyond the capacity of field officers appear to be necessary. The team is a multi-jurisdictional team consisting of officers from the Champaign County Sheriff's Office, Urbana, University of Illinois, Mahomet, Parkland College and Rantoul Police Departments.
Sergeants
Starting pay: $94,772.08
With established level of mental health crisis training: $95,205.45
Sergeants are responsible for supervising patrol and traffic regulatory activities and administrative assignments; performing patrol and investigative duties; ensuring public safety by enforcing criminal and traffic laws in the City of Urbana; and reviewing Police Officers' work through oral and written reports, discussions on major patrol and administrative requirements and observation of results.
Lieutenants
Typical starting salary: $95,114.55 - $126,026.78
A Police Lieutenant is a sworn, non-bargaining unit supervisor of a division of the Urbana Police Department. This position is responsible for scheduling, assigning, coordinating, directing, and inspecting work of shift subordinates; directly supervising and evaluating work of shift Police Sergeants; coordinating, directing, and supervising subordinates in compliance with Illinois Compiled Statutes, policy and procedures, rules and regulations.
